Mac

  1. Download the Vmware Horizon View Client. (See also release notes.)
  2. Launch the VMware View Client and install the file.

    Note Administrator access may be required.

  3. Click Agree.
  4. Copy the VMware View Client application file to the Applications folder.

Windows

  1. Download the Vmware Horizon View Client. (See also release notes.)
  2. Launch the VMware-viewclient installation file.

    Note Administrator access may be required.

  3. Click Next.
  4. Select I accept the terms in the license agreement and then click Next.
  5. Keep the default setting selections and click Next.

    Note Click Browse to install the application in a different location.

  6. Type midesktop.umich.edu in the Default View Connection Server field and then click Next.
  7. Adjust the default behavior, if neccessary, and then click Next.
  8. Select where to install shortcuts, if any, and then click Next.
  9. Click Install and then click Finish.

    Note You may need to restart your computer before using VMware View Client.

  1. Launch VMware View Client
  2. Double-click midesktop.umich.edu.
  3. Enter your uniqname and UMROOT (Windows Active Directory) password and then click Login.

    Note If the Domain field is blank, select UMROOT from the drop-down list.

  4. Double-click a virtual desktop to connect.

    Note Current Mac clients no longer support the RDP protocol. To change the default protocol in the Windows client or for more advanced options, right-click the virtual desktop icon.

  1. Go to the VMware Horizon launch page.
  2. Double-click VMware Horizon HTML Access.
  3. Log in with your uniqname and UMROOT (Windows Active Directory) password.
  4. Double-click a virtual desktop to connect.

Using a Virtual Desktop

Once connected, your virtual desktop behaves the same as a traditional computer.

No need to be alarmed. Apple has announced that Mac OS X 10.10 is available. But if you are running the latest Horizon Client for Mac, version 3.1, you do not need to change anything. The current client works beautifully with Yosemite and looks beautiful doing it.

For weeks, we have been testing the Horizon Client 3.1 with the OS X Yosemite beta. Now that OS X 10.10 has shipped, we can confirm that the Horizon Client for Mac that we shipped in September is fully compatible.
